From learner to teacher
Mr Q is Brazilian and learned English as an adult. He discovered the Callan Method in England, where it taught him the language, and was so impressed by the results that he decided to teach with it himself. The first lesson he gave convinced him that this was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
He started with private students in São Paulo. Before long he sent recordings of his lessons to Robin Callan, the creator of the method. Callan was so impressed with his command of the technique that he sent him a recommendation letter and invited him to England, where Mr Q completed the Callan School teacher training course. He was the first person who was not English to complete it.
Building a school
Back in Brazil, Mr Q grew from a single small room into a school with several classrooms, its own staff and teachers from the UK and other countries. Among them was John Andrew Wilson, who taught at the school in 2012 and later wrote about his experience. Over the years, Mr Q has taught executives, investors, pilots, flight attendants, doctors, lawyers, IT professionals, programmers, designers, entrepreneurs, teachers, university students and retirees.
Training teachers and schools
From 2000 to 2011, at Robin Callan’s invitation, Mr Q worked as a consultant for new Callan Method schools in Brazil, training teachers and school owners. In 2007 Robin Callan introduced him to CLC Switzerland, and the school hired him to train its teachers in Vevey. In 2014 he was recognised as an Authorized Trainer, and he continues to train independently. More about training.
Today
Mr Q now teaches private lessons online, with an automated booking system, recorded lessons and a personal student page for every learner. Students in Switzerland can book lessons in their own time zone.
Mr Q has never stopped teaching, or improving. Pronunciation correction is more precise than ever, lesson procedures have been continually refined, and in recent years he has taught a growing number of students from Switzerland and other European countries. He loves teaching, and he is personally committed to each student’s success.
